Melissa Yates-Long, 54, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
Service: 10 am Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield. Visitation: 6-8 pm Monday, November 24, 2014, at Skyvue. Burial: Skyvue Memorial Gardens.
On March 28, 1960 Melissa was born to C.D. Thomas and Mary Lou Canright Thomas. She resided in the Fort Worth area for most of her life. She was a cosmetologist and opened a few shops of her own. Later in life she decided to return to school, she was a student in the RN program of Vernon College. She was married to Michael Long. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was working at Wynnewood Assisted Living Center as a CNA. She loved the idea of caring for others. She left this world on November 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her father C.D. Thomas, her sisters Kaye Smith and Melanie Guy. She is survived by her husband, Michael Long; her mother, Mary Lou Canright Thomas of Fort Worth; her brother Sammy Wallace of Benbrook; her four sons, Kevin Bason Jr. of Ft. Worth, Craig Yates Jr. of Joshua, Chris Yates of Weatherford and Charles Yates of Ft Worth and 7 grandchildren, a long list of Uncles, Aunts, Nieces and Nephews and Cousins. She never met a stranger and grew to love a lot of “adopted” kids.
