Willie Beatrice Mathis

After 102 years of a life richly lived, Willie Beatrice Mathis closed the book on this earthly journey on April 2, 2026.

Willie was born on March 8, 1924, in the quiet town of Frederick, Oklahoma, to Lovie and James Greer. From the beginning, she carried herself with intention, dignity, and quiet confidence. After being educated in Oklahoma City, she pursued a degree in History in Richmond, Virginia. Her love for writing and drawing was more than a hobby - it was expression, reflection, and preservation. Through her published work on the history of the Greer descendants, she ensured that the stories of her lineage would never fade. 

On October 17, 1962, Willie married Edward Lee Mathis, building a life rooted in love, commitment, and shared purpose together. They continued building, leading them to adopt their son, David Wayne Mathis. Their hard work and effort did not stop until Edward's passing in 2004. She gave 20 years of dedicated service to Oncor Electric Service Company, and became a member at Shiloh Baptist Church, then later at Calvary Cathedral, with her faith remaining steady, guiding her through every season of life.

Those to greet Willie with open arms in Heaven are her loving husband, Edward Lee Mathis; her parents, Lovie and James Greer; her siblings, Billy Mack Greer, Bobby Joe Greer, Harold Leon Greer, and Robert "Beau" Celestial Greer.

Those left to cherish Willie's memory are her son, David Wayne Mathis; her siblings, Fritz James Greer, Albert Doss Greer, and Lettye Faye (Greer) Harris, along with so many loving family members and friends.
