Shirley Steelman Williams
Born in Gilmer Texas on May 30, 1934
Passed from this life on February 20, 2022
Shirley grew up in Rosewood, Texas, eventually making her home with her husband, Jerry in Arlington, Texas.
Shirley held numerous positions in the field of accounting, the longest being with Texas Industries (aka TXI). Upon retirement, she and our dad took jobs with the U.S. Department of State, landing them in Prague, Czechoslovakia where they worked for the U.S. Embassy for 3 years. While this was a great adventure for mom and dad, they were missing their grandbabies and decided that 3 years was long enough to be away from them. Returning to the states, she and dad made their home, once again, in Arlington. After dad’s passing, mom, not being one to sit still too long at a time, took a position with Mansfield ISD as a monitor on a special needs bus where she worked for 5 years, after which she fully retired.
A woman of strong faith Shirley was a long-time member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ where she served in the Hearts and Hands ministry until her health prevented her from doing so. Of all the travels and adventures mom experienced in her life, her greatest blessings were her faith, family, grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Williams, infant daughter Connie Jean Williams, and her son, Terry Williams.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Mattis, Cathy Hannah and husband Butch, her son Larry Williams, her brother Alton Steelman and wife Sandy as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hearts and Hands ministry through Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.
