Glenn William Uffelman

Glenn William Uffelman passed into eternal life on January 2, 2020.
Memorial Service: 1pm Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Skyvue Funeral Home.

Mr. Uffelman was born December 14, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Henry F.
and Minnie R. (Lepper) Uffelman.
He suffered several traumatic experiences in his
young life, beginning with the Great Depression. Then, in 1934, his eldest brother
Paul was fatally struck by lightning while walking to school. In 1939, his father was killed in an industrial accident. Mr. Uffelman graduated from Pittsburgh’s David B. Oliver High School in February
1942. He entered the University of Pittsburgh in the Fall of that year. His pursuit of
higher education was interrupted by military service. He was inducted into the U.S.
Army on March 19, 1943.
He served in the 65th Infantry Division, 261st Regiment,
which was part of General Patton’s Third Army. He trained at Fort Shelby,
Mississippi and departed from New York for Le Havre France on January 10, 1945.
The 261 st Regiment breached the Siegfried line Mar 17-19, 1945. The 65th Division continued to battle across Germany and reached Austria on May 4, 1945. The 65th Division was deactivated on August 31, 1945. At that time, Mr. Uffelman was transferred to 1st Infantry Division (generally called ”The Big Red One”) and was assigned to occupation duty in Germany. During his service, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army on May 27, 1946.
Upon his return from military service, Mr. Uffelman completed his Bachelor of Science in General Engineering utilizing the GI Bill. After graduation, he went to work in the Tool and Dye Department at the Fisher Body and General Motors Pittsburgh Metal Stamping Plant in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. Mr. Uffelman was united in marriage to Betty Irene Bailey on June 1, 1956, at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They settled in Baldwin Borough, Pennsylvania and raised five daughters. In 1975, Mr. Uffelman moved his family to Longview, Texas, to pursue a new career opportunity with Lone Star Steel. He was tasked with overseeing the installation of the coke ovens. He eventually retired from Lone Star Steel. He and his wife, Betty, enjoyed touring the United States in their retirement. They eventually visited every state in the Continental U.S.
Sadly, Mr. Uffelman lost his wife of 50 years in May 2007. He relocated to Arlington,Texas, to live closer to his daughters. In his later years, Mr. Uffelman loved spending time with his two granddaughters and his great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter Nancy Carpenter, his parents, his brothers, Paul and Henry, his sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, son-in-law and two nephews.
Mr. Uffelman survived by his remaining four daughters, Debbie Maday, Becky Thornton, Kimberly Uffelman and Pam Brown; two sons-in-law, Greg Carpenter and Tim Brown; two granddaughters Amanda (Trevor) Day and Megan Brown; one great grandson, Rhett Day; a niece and nephew.

The family would like to give a special thanks to staff at Brookdale Pecan Park and Envoy Hospice who cared so tenderly for Glenn in the last three months of his time here on Earth.
