Troylene was born to Johnnie Smith, Sr. and Annie Craft in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the third child born to her parents, and the first of her 4 siblings to be called home. We rejoice knowing she is now reunited with her parents - surely having a Holy Ghost good time. Troylene attended Dunbar High School in Stop Six, where she graduated in 1969. She later pursued her passion for helping others by attending college in Austin, Texas, where she studied nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Affectionately known as Troy, she was loved by everyone who knew her. Though she had three siblings, Mary Ann, Johnnie, Jr. (Julia), and Brenda Faye (Sammie), she was also raised in a home full of love. Alongside Inell, Betty, Roy, Carolyn, Ruby Jean, Kathy, and Glenn, they became her extended brothers and sisters.
Troy loved God – let it be said again – Troy LOVED God. If you knew her, you knew her faith was real. She loved to eat, loved to ride, and had a laugh that could light up any room. Whether something was funny or not, she could make you laugh anyway. Her favorite color was purple, and whichever team was winning at the time – well, that was her team too!
She was the proud mother of three daughters: Shanay “Naynae” Thompson, Tiffany “Tiff” Brown, and Tamika “Mika” Austin. In 1988, she met the love of her life, Rufus V. Jones. They were united in marriage in 1989 and shared 37 beautiful years together. Through their union, they created a loving blended family with his three children: Wellington “Petie” Wair, Leta Lacey, and Justin Glover. In 1990, Troy and Rufus moved to Denver, Colorado, to follow her brother, Johnnie, Jr. While there, they founded a church, and she faithfully served as First Lady of Sonshine Deliverance. From 1990 to 2012, Troylene poured into the Denver community – working, teaching, and touching countless lives. In 2012, they returned to Texas to be closer to family, where she continued her faith journey at her baby sister’s church, Rebirth.
On Friday, April 10, 2026, at 5:38 a.m., God called her home. She was welcomed with open arms by her parents, who had been waiting for their daughter’s return. Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 37 years, Rufus V. Jones; her loving children, Shaunica Thompson, Tiffany Brown, and Tamika Austin; her bonus children, Wellington Wair, Letia (Robert) Lacey, and Justin Glover. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Deajarae Smith, Daryl Thompson, Jr., and Da’Quari Thompson, Christopher Baltimore, Jr., Aidan Stroede, Quashon Amiya, Caylon Wair, La’Niyah, Chassity, and Robert Lacey, Jr., and her great-grandson, Ba’Khari Thompson. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews – so many that if we named them all, we wouldn’t have time to shout!
Troy lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, strength, and devotion to God that will never be forgotten.
