Toby Mendoza, Jr.
February 3, 1939 – June 15, 2026
Toby Mendoza, Jr., age 87, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Toby was born on February 3, 1939, in Ranger, TX, to Avelina and Toby Mendoza Sr. Toby lived in Ranger until his family moved to Fort Worth in the 1950's. He spent the majority of his career in corrugated packaging sales, a role where he was widely known and successful because of his infectious enthusiasm and charismatic smile.
Beyond his career, Toby loved golf and cars. He was a dedicated member of social golf club and a vintage car enthusiast. He owned several classic Mustangs throughout his life and was frequently seen driving to the golf course in his prized '66 Mustang convertible. Toby was also a music and baseball enthusiast—pastimes he proudly passed down to his children and grandchildren.
But his greatest love of all was for his family. Toby was dedicated to his loved ones, actively supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s hobbies, insisting upon their continuing education, and ardently adhering to cherished family traditions.
Toby is survived by his beloved spouse of 64 years, Cristina De La Cruz Mendoza; his children, Gino & Gayle Mendoza, Carlos & Gaylyn Mendoza, and Cathi & Brian Burkham; his grandchildren, Jake, Drew (Cassidy), Pasqual (Sarah), Gabe (Jasmine), Mateo, and Toni Mendoza; Blake (Becca) Browning, Elisa (Ryder) Jones, and Casey Burkham; and his great-grandchildren, Hud and Marcie Mae. He is also survived by his siblings, Dora Flores, Irene Wiggins, Frank Mendoza, and Andy Mendoza, alongside numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Johnny, Charlie, Pete, and Eduarda Mendoza.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, located at 1201 S. Cherry Ln, White Settlement, TX. A memorial gathering will immediately follow in the church hall. A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memoriam to the Toby Mendoza Golf Scholarship fund at Ranger College. Toby actively supported the baseball and golf programs at Ranger College and even coached the men's and women's golf teams to the regional championship at the age of 82.
Toby will be deeply missed, but we find comfort in knowing his life was well-lived, and his legacy lives on through all who loved him.
