Doris Thurman

December 7, 1932 — January 14, 2020

Doris Octavia Ford Thurman was born December 7, 1932 in Jonesville, Louisiana. On January 14, 2020 she went to be with her Lord & Savior. She was 87 years old.

Growing up in Jonesville, Louisiana, Doris attended and played basketball at Block High School. As an older sibling, she helped her parents by working in her aunt’s restaurant to help provide for her family even during her lunch hour at school. After high school, she moved to Monroe, LA to start business college with some friends. During college, she met her husband Jim Thurman. They were married on April 28, 1951.

While following her husband’s career, they lived in Germany, Arkansas, Louisiana where of which they were blessed with their three children Jerry, Chuck, and Kelly.

Doris continued to work as their family moved around only taking time off to care for her children. Jim & Doris retired in Fort Worth, TX where she was a faithful member of Wedgwood Baptist Church. Doris found new hobbies to keep her busy such as painting, reading auto biographies, and watching the history channel. With all these new found hobbies, she still had time to help create memories with her grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents R. L. Ford & Ruby Mae Ford, her husband of 60 years, James William Thurman, son William “Chuck” Thurman, her brothers; Ernest Ford, Les Ford, Quinnon Ford and sister Alice Ford.

She is survived by her sister Judy Dillion, son Jerry Thurman, daughter Kelly Thurman-Szabo and daughter-in-law Debbie Thurman. She had 6 grandchildren: Dustin, Christie, Mallory, Kimberly, Amy, Olivia and 14 great-grandchildren.
