Quincy Dewayne Thomas (affectionately known as Q) was born to Mr. Darryl W. Thomas, Sr., and Mrs. Cheryl L. Thomas (Walker) on June 6, 1986. Their 2nd born child wasted no time marching to the beat of his own drum and every now and again listening to the beat of his big brother’s.
From the beginning, Q showed his enthusiasm for life, family and just a good ole’ time. His wits and hard-headed nature were also easy to spot. Early on in life, Q discovered another passion for music and went on to play drums as a Marching Chaparral for the O.D. Wyatt High School Marching Band and occasionally at church.
Quincy grew up attending Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sherman L. Johnson where his grandfather, James C. Thomas served as the deacon and his grandmother, Marie A. Thomas served as the usher.
Q received his education in the public schools of Fort Worth, TX. Prior to graduating, he relocated to Yuma, AZ with his big brother, D.J. (Darryl Jr.). There he graduated from Kofa High School. Shortly after, he received the Lord Jesus as his savior and was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Q, eventually, found love and decided to settle down with his girlfriend Angie Hursey. They started a family. Immediately Quincy dove into fatherhood and fathered his stepson, Jordan, as if he was his own. During their time together, Quincy and Angie had four more kids – Sarey, Quincy Jr., Noah, and Destiny.
Along the way, he picked up automotive, manufacturing, and cooking skills. Despite the busyness of life, his compassion for people continued to grow. It’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone else with a heart as BIG as Quincy’s. He would give a stranger the shirt off his back.
On Wednesday morning, December 8, 2021, our beloved lover and fighter, Q, drummed his last beat as he was called home to be with the Lord. He is survived by Angie Hursey, their four children, his mother – Cheryl L. Walker, his grandmother – Marie A. Thomas, his brother & wife – Darryl W. Thomas, Jr. & Alexia Thomas, his two sisters – Jasmine C. Thomas and Tasmine T. Thomas and a host of nieces & nephews, relatives, and friends.
Quincy’s heart was so big that there was only one way that he knew how to love — HARD. Let us love in such a way.
