Terrance (“Terry”) O’Brien, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 16, 2026 in Crowley, Texas. Born on July 28, 1943 in South Portland, Maine, he obtained a Bachelor of Science from Golden Gate University in 1979. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1986. Over the course of his military career, he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sargent, an achievement that reflects exceptional leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment. We are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind and the example he set for all who follow. His career included: United States Air Force, Singer-Link, Raytheon, Hughes Electronics, and L3 Communications.

Terry’s life was defined by exceptional athleticism, discipline, and true sportsmanship. He excelled across multiple arenas. He was a three-time national Amateur Athletic Union champion as well as a two-time North American champion. Terrance’s competitive spirit and dedication carried him onto the world stage as a three-time Olympian: he proudly represented the United States in 1968, 1972, and 1976, serving as captain of the U.S. Luge Team during his Olympic appearances. His leadership, discipline, and unwavering commitment to his sport earned him the respect of teammates and competitors alike, reflecting a lifetime defined by perseverance and exceptional achievement. He was an avid golfer, participating in yearly golf outings to Myrtle Beach to reconnect with friends and make new friendships. He also cultivated relationships closer to home, creating friendship networks and communities at local establishments like Our Place and Sidelines.

Terry was a man whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to everyone who knew him. His character earned their respect and loyalty. To family, friends, and all who crossed his path, he was a source of steady support and quiet joy, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to be felt for years to come. He was methodical and deliberate in everything he did, always considering what he did and how it affected his loved ones, but he was also possessed of mischievous, twinkling eyes, a broad smile, and a quick wit.p

Terry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Edward and Edith Kelsen O’Brien. Terrance is survived by his sisters: Katherine Kemna, Francine Libby, and Roberta Cahill. His legacy continues through his beloved children: Kevin O’Brien and Jennifer O’Brien.
