Shirley Jean Reid

Shirley Jean Reid of Arlington, Texas was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 73.

Shirley was born February 23, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri to Joseph Vernon Dodd and Delphia Marie (Rogers) Dodd.  She married Claude Nelson Reid on December 15, 1994, in Fort Worth, Texas.  Shirley enjoyed being a music director and member at Blessed Hope Baptist Church where she brought joy to many.  She graduated from Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska in 1970 followed by Tarrant County College in 2009 and achieved an Associate of Arts in Music Education. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa-Alpha Delta Delta Chapter in college, The Texoma Gospel Music Association, Southern Gospel Music Association and the Faithful Touch Gospel Group. She enjoyed singing in her family group "The Reids Music Ministry for Green Valley Nursing Home, reading the Bible, fishing, writing songs, thrifting and baking. Shirley made the Dean's Honor Roll, Who's Who of College Students and Received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Vocal Performing Arts.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Dodd; daughter, Loraine Harris; father, Joseph Dodd; mother, Delphia Dodd; brother, Danny Dodd; brother Kenny Dodd.

Those left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are her husband of over 30 years, Claude Reid; daughters, Sherlyn Cooper and husband Kevin, Keven Seay; sister, Patricia Dodd; grandchildren, Christine Harris, Ashley Trudeau and Michael Crawford; great-grandson, Ethan Harris; nieces, Tara Briggs and Julie Dodd; nephews, Danny Dodd and Joe Dodd; childhood friend, Linda Miller; 50-year friend, Leslie Hysom; 35-year friend, Billie Hammack along with numerous other loving church family and friends.
