She was born on November 22, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Thomas Long and Pauline McMillan Davidson. On April 1, 1972 at Sheppard Air Force Base, Shirley Married the love of her life, Johnie R. Long. Their union spanned five decades and produced countless precious memories filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another until his passing in October of 2022.

Shirley was a woman of unwavering faith. Her devotion to her beliefs and her kind-hearted nature touched the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She embodied love and care, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. This was evident in the way that she became a volunteer with hospice Family Services, helping many families through what she experienced when losing her son, Jesse. She was named volunteer of the year for her work ethic, compassionate attitude, professionalism and commitment to the team concept in the hospice program.

Shirley led a fulfilling life and found joy in the simplest things. Gardening was one of her cherished hobbies; she poured her heart into nurturing beautiful blooms. In addition to tending to her garden, Shirley's creative spirit shone through her craft-making skills. She would spend hours meticulously creating beautiful crafts that adorned her home and brought joy to others. Playing cards was another activity that Shirley enjoyed. The laughter-filled evenings spent playing cards with loved ones were cherished moments that created lasting memories.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Johnie R. Long; her two sons, Jesse King and Keith Long; her parents, Thomas Long and Paulene McMillan Davidson.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Prewitt (Macky), Elaine Barnes (Mike); sister, Ruby Long; brothers, Eugene Long, Wayne Davidson; grandchildren, Delaine Baker, Steven Prewitt, Ashley Barnes, Austin Barnes, Kaylee Long, Kendall Egloff, Joshua King, Jeremy King, and Jennifer and David Dousay; three great-granddaughters; niece, Lydia Frazier; nephews, Terry Long, Troy Long, Cameron Davidson and Elbert Blumenthal; other special family members and dear friends, Doug Barnes and family, Randy and Karen Martin, Donna Moxley and family, Barbara Clark and family; and to those Church Friends- it has been a huge blessing to have so many of those in the church family selflessly bring food by, send their love, call and visit.
