Beatrice Guthrie was born of Sanford Guthrie and Ruth McKimmie in Halls Mills, Wetzel County, West Virginia, the youngest of 6 children. Growing up in the country with 3 brothers during the depression and at only 4’11”, she became tough and determined; so much so that she outlived them all by over 40 years.
While she fell just short of reaching her goal of 100 years of life, her mind, thankfully, remained sharp. She was proud of her heritage and we were lucky to be the recipients of stories of a life well-lived in a simpler, more sensible time.
She has joined her beloved husband, Alwin Schmitt, after 40 years without him. Her memory and those stories we enjoyed will live on through her daughter, Linda Kaye Gordon, and husband Buster; her granddaughter, Kathryn Nicole Paquette, and fiancé Aron Cain and children Madisen and Breanna; several nieces and nephews; and all who knew and loved her.
