Celebrating the Life of Sara L. Smith
August 23, 1945 – July 6, 2025
Sara L. Smith passed peacefully from this life on July 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and creativity.
Born on August 23, 1945, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to John A. Pierson Sr. and Marjorie Shimp Emch. Sara graduated from River High school in Hannibal, OH. It was here that she found her love of football. It was a rare for her to miss an Ohio State football game.
Sara proudly served her country by enlisting in the United States Army. Following her military service, she devoted 30 years as a contract administrator in civil service. She pursued a bachelor's degree later in her career.
Sara was a woman of faith and a longtime member of First Methodist Church of Mansfield. She found joy in giving back, especially through her involvement with Stitches of Love. A talented quilter, she poured her care and creativity into every piece she made, bringing comfort and beauty to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marjorie, her brothers, John A. Pierson Jr. and Everett Kennon; her son, William Smith Jr.; her grandson, Andrew Trujillo; and her brother-in-law, Samuel Baker.
She is survived by her daughter Christine Day (Donald) her brother, George Pierson (Cecile); her sister, Beth Baker; her grandchildren, Breann Trujillo and Ryan Metz; and her great-grandchildren, Layla Fletcher and Alycia Kaina Delos Santos.
She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including nieces Lori Mack (Mike), Michele Ream (Monty), Samantha Baker, and Mary Brown; great-nieces Ellie Meeker, Justine Brown, Jazamine Brown, Kennedy Ream, Katie Pierson, Maggie Pierson, Taylor Baker, Ashlynn Baker and Gabrielle Baker; nephews John P. Pierson (Gladys), George Pierson Jr., Mark Pierson (Kim), and Brad Baker(Jessica); great-nephews David Pierson, Clifford Brown and Samuel David Baker; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Visitation is Friday July 18, 2025, from 4-6 pm with Skyvue Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery 7220 Rendon Bloodworth Rd. Mansfield, TX 76063.
A memorial service celebrating Sara's life will be held August 8, 2025 @ 12:00 at First Methodist Mansfield, 777 W. Walnut Creek Dr., Mansfield, TX 76063.
