Phyllis Ann Barrett Cox

Phyllis Ann Barrett Cox peacefully made her earthly departure on April 26, 2026, at the age of 78.

Phyllis was born on January 18, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Ernestine Hill-Barrett and James Barrett, Sr. She graduated from M.L. Kirkpatrick High School in 1966. She went on to earn her Bachelors degree in History, with a minor in Education, from Huston-Tillotson University in 1970. Phyllis later earned her Masters degree in Liberal Arts from Texas Christian University in 2006. She gave 25 years of faithful service to Tarrant County College and dedicated her life to teaching and education.

Those to greet Phyllis with open arms are her mother, Ernestine Hill-Barrett, her father James Barrett Sr., stepmother Jessie Barrett, and her brother Errol Barrett.

Those left to cherish Phyllis's memory are her daughter, Kamala; her sisters, Judy Hall, Marcia Barrett, and Michelle Barrett-Grays; her brothers, James Barrett, Jr., Mark Barrett, and Michael Barrett; her grandchildren, David Johnson, Jadyn Johnson, and Haleigh Johnson; her special niece, Kandy Hall, along with many other loving nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.

Phyllis's family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Memory Care for all their care and support during her stay. We would also like to thank everyone for their kind support and love during this difficult time. We truly appreciate you.
