Sammye Ruth Ogden, 79, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was born September 13, 1941, in Gorman, TX. She grew up in several small towns in Texas, attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock until she met the love of her life, Royce Ogden, at his family's produce farm in Fort Sumner, NM.
Royce and Sammye were married 59 years and had five children while they lived in Portales, Odessa, Lubbock, Irving, Garland, and in Rendon for the past 46 years.
Sammye was the living embodiment of sacrificial love, always encouraging and thinking the best of others. She expressed her love through warm, hearty hugs and greetings, old-fashioned hospitality, and the practical arts of a seamstress, gardener, cook, and baker. She loved the outdoors, bird watching, singing songs, telling funny stories, being a great observer of people, and an avid reader.
She was also devoted to her faith, being a lifelong Methodist and a member of First United Methodist in Mansfield since 1975. Her dedication to her family and home was immediately apparent to all who visited their lovely home or who met one of her wonderful children.
Her family and friends grieve the loss of a beautiful soul who demonstrated much goodness and truth. She passed on to heaven on May 13, 2021, leaving behind a great legacy. Sammye was preceded in death by a son Kim Bradford Ogden, a sister Gene Byrd, a brother James Reynolds, and her parents Gus and Ruby Reynolds.
