George Murphey

June 12, 1937 — February 19, 2013

George Allen Murphey, 75, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday in Skyvue Victoria Chapel. Burial: Skyvue Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Skyvue Funeral Home.
George Allen was born June 12, 1937, in Pattonsburg, Mo., to Oscar and Ople Murphey. He married Elizabeth Garza on April 11, 1959, at Richards-Gebauer AFB, Mo. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963. He served overseas in the Philippines, Taiwan, Germany, and Turkey. After his discharge he went into the finance field. He was employed by Gambles, Woolworth, General Electric and retired from 3M Co., Dec. 31, 1996. He was a licensed Baptist minister since October 1970. He taught single adults in Sunday school and conducted Bible classes in his home for several years.
He often spoke at nursing homes, detention centers and small churches. George was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ople; brother, Donald; sister, Opal Nalle.
Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth Murphey; daughters, Sharon Worthey and husband, Mike, DeeDee Harper and husband, Mark; sons, Michael Murphey and wife, Lauren, Steven Murphey and wife, Shelly; sister-in-law, Helen Murphey; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
