Major Phillip Scott Reesing, USMC, passed away on May 19, 2025, at the age of 60, after a courageous battle with cancer. He had been recently diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer that was brought on by the burn pits overseas. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.
Phillip was born on July 19, 1964, in Houston, Texas, to LaWanda Ferne Moon and Darrell Dean Reesing. He worked as a lifeguard when he was 18 years old. He earned his Bachelor of English from The University of Texas at Austin and Arlington. Phillip married Belinda Ford on March 26, 2011, at Belinda’s parents’ house in Mansfield, Texas. Later, they moved to Garden Ridge, Texas. He loved his Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and playing and watching golf. He enjoyed listening and dancing to a wide variety of music. He was the CEO/Vice President of PBR Entertainment, the company him and his wife Belinda started in 2022. His part in managing the band, selling merchandise, sharing stories with fans, and making friends everywhere he went, brought him so much happiness. Phillip never met a stranger, and everyone that met him loved him.
Phillip was a proud United States Marine. He initially enlisted in the United States Navy. He served more than four years before being attending Officer’s Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on December 7th, 1990. He continued to serve for more than 24 years as both an active-duty Marine and a Marine reservist. Phillip saw serious combat action in Somalia in support of Operation Restore Hope (1992-1993). He was awarded Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon during that combat action in Somalia. He served in many peace-time billets and duty stations as well.
Phillip retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Major, in 2014. Among his numerous other awards are the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and several other medals and ribbons encompassing both overseas service and peacetime service. Phillip was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and he always kept his hair “high and tight.”
Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and LaWanda Reesing.
