Larry D. Pennington

Larry D. Pennington passed away at the age of 73 peacefully on August 4, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family with his final moments reflecting the same strength, kindness, and devotion that defined his life.

Larry, also known as “Big Al” or “Doc” was born in Wichita Falls, Texas December 28, 1952, to Mary Lou and W.E. Pennington. He later moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he graduated from Southwest High School in 1972, married and raised a family. Larry dedicated much of his career to serving others. For over 30 years he worked as an optician as well as delivered the newspaper for the Fort Worth Star Telegram before retiring after 15 years working for Cook Children’s Hospital where his compassion, work ethic and genuine care for people left a lasting impression on coworkers and those he served.

Known for his caring heart, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family, Larry will be remembered for the countless lives he touched through his kindness and generosity. Though he will be deeply missed, Larry’s family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lou Pennington and W.E.Pennington and his brother Lynn Pennington.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer Lyles (Keith), Tracie Gilbreath (Trey), Matthew Pennington, and his sisters Janet Bowman (David) and Cheryl Broyles. He was a proud grandfather to Trey, Chelsea, Roderick, Noelle, Christian and Ashlynn along with many extended family members and cherished friends.

A memorial service celebrating Larry’s life will be announced by the family at a later date.
