Ernie Leon Lancaster, 86, of Burleson, Texas, passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus on May 12th after a long battle with dementia.
He was born on December 16, 1934 in Borger, Texas to Oscar and Verue Mitchell Lancaster. He graduated from O’Brien High School in 1953. He married Helen Kay Ross of Rule, Texas on May 19, 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. They had seven children, six sons and one daughter. He had a lifelong career as a welder and retired from Bell Helicopter. He lost his loving wife, Helen, to cancer on February 1, 1996. Following the heartbreak of a great loss, God brought Ernie and Tommie Allen together and they later married in June 1998.
Ernie was a Christian man who was devoted to sharing the word and love of God to anybody he could. He was a longtime member of the Burleson Church of Christ in Burleson, TX. He loved to smile and his family could bring out the biggest smile in him, especially his grandkids. He never missed an opportunity to hug your neck or tell you that he loved you.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Tommie Lancaster; his children, Lyle Lancaster & wife Kim of Desoto, KS, Kyle Lancaster & wife Karen of Joshua, TX, Michael Lancaster & wife Joyce of Godley, TX, Lisa Arie & husband Joel of Midlothian, TX, Larry Lancaster & wife Sherrie of Blanket TX, Andy Lancaster & wife Shannon of Cleburne, TX, and Alton Lancaster of Hawkins, TX; god-daughter Kristy Wallace & husband Marshall of Fort Worth, TX; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; brothers, Raymond Lancaster & wife Diana of Amarillo, TX and Bruce Lancaster & wife Berta of Hackett, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, his step-daughter, Kim McBride, and brother, Derwin Lancaster.
