James Melvin Johnson, Sr. went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2022 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 87.
James was born on May 29, 1935 in Hallsville, Texas to Early and Bessie Johnson. He attended Hallsville Public Schools in Harrison County. He moved to Cleveland, Texas where he married Lois Davis. He later married Alice Davis of Marshall, Texas and they moved to Fort Worth where he worked for and retired from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Newspaper. James really enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play and going fishing. He had a passion for raising livestock including hogs and cattle where he earned the name “Hogman” and “Breadman”.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Johnson of 66 years; brothers, Alphonso Johnson, Earlie Johnson, Jr., Thomas Johnson and Leonard Johnson; sister, Carol Johnson; sons, Richard Johnson, Garrett Johnson; and grandson, Keith Burkes.
He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy his sons, James Johnson I (Shirley), James Johnson II, Douglas Johnson and Michael Johnson (Carla); daughter, Wanda Johnson-Thomas (Cliff) all of Fort Worth; sisters, Elsie Davis of Hallsville and Dorothy Lee of Fort Worth; brothers, Don Johnson of Hallsville and Billy Johnson of Houston; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
