Johnny H. Martin, born February 4, 1934, in Stonewall, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, in Mansfield, Texas. His life was a testament to dedication, faith, and love for family and friends.
Johnny's early years were shaped in Stonewall, where he was born to his late parents, Georgia and Murland "Bud" Martin. He was a proud graduate of Shirley Owens High School, completing his studies there in 1954. Shortly after, Johnny embarked on his professional journey, beginning work at Skokie Valley Laundry from 1957 until 1959. He then joined Fort Sheridan, where he built a respected career spanning three decades, dedicating himself to his work there from 1959 until 1989.
One of the defining moments of Johnny's life was his marriage to Alice V. Smith. They wed in Waukegan, Illinois, on June 15, 1963, forging a loving partnership that would last more than six decades. Together, they built a family rooted in mutual respect, faith, and support.
Johnny’s faith was central to his life. He was a devoted member of New Greater Faith Church Baptist from 1989, participating actively until illness prevented his attendance. This spiritual community brought him great joy and comfort, and his commitment to his faith always guided him.
He will be fondly remembered by those closest to him: his beloved wife Alice Martin; his daughters Cherree Martin and Alesia Pickett, and Alesia’s spouse Gerald; his granddaughters Allyson Fox and Ashli Fox; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and by cherished friends Kenny Wright and Carl Jones.
Johnny is reunited in rest with his parents, Georgia and Murland "Bud" Martin; his beloved son, Lewis Martin; and his sisters, Elizabeth Dumas and Juanita Venson.
Throughout his life, Johnny found joy in simple pleasures. He loved playing pool for many years, demonstrating the same focus and sportsmanship in the game that he brought to every aspect of his life.
Johnny H. Martin’s legacy lives on in the memories and hearts of all who knew him. His unwavering commitment to family, his enduring faith, and the steadfast friendships he nurtured will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
