Gerardo Guillermo "Jerry" Sarmiento

Gerardo Guillermo "Jerry" Sarmiento gained his wings on June 27, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Born on January 1, 1963, in Juarez, Mexico, Jerry was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend and coworker whose vibrant spirit touched all who knew him.

Jerry’s early life began in Juarez before he moved to the United States, where he attended Ysleta High School and UTEP. He also obtained his HVAC license and other certifications in numerous fields. Jerry was very intelligent and mechanically inclined and when asked how he knew things he always stated “I went to Smart School”—a phrase family and friends remember fondly and a testament to Jerry’s warm humor and quick wit.

Jerry married the love of his life, Tammy Marie (Sarsfield) Sarmiento, on June 30, 1987, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. They both served in the Army and met each other while stationed in South Korea. Their marriage was a shining example of unwavering partnership and love, spanning decades filled with laughter, adventure, and devotion. Together, they raised two sons, Cody Lee Sarmiento and Justin Charles Sarmiento, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family.

Jerry’s mother, Maria Lidia Montanez, and his siblings, Jaime, Carlos, Silvia, Jose, Rosemary and Angelica, mourn the passing of their beloved brother and son. Jerry cherished his family deeply, drawing strength, joy, and companionship from their close-knit bonds.

His professional life was as varied and energetic as his interests. Jerry worked as a carpentry worker with his uncle in his early years. He then contributed his talents to the military for 6 years of service in the US Army. He was employed at Chevron, JC Penny Outlet, National Semiconductor, McDonald's, Weyerhaeuser, and at one point even delivered flowers with a smile. He also worked at and Taco Cabana and QuikTrip as facility maintenance bringing his affable nature to every job he took on. Each role was embraced with Jerry’s signature work ethic and determination.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Jerry served his country honorably. He was stationed at Fort Huachuca AZ, K-16 Seoul Air Base, Korea, REFORGER, Germany and Fort Bliss TX. He exemplified the values of loyalty and dedication with serval decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons awards. These qualities extended into his community life in Arlington. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church where he and his wife raised their two sons in the catholic faith.

Jerry had a passion for life that shone through in everything he did. He was a true sports enthusiast, both coaching and umpiring little league baseball. In his young days playing basketball was his favorite thing. His role as a little league coach was not just a pastime but a calling; he led his South East Arlington Little League team to win a championship, an achievement he cherished deeply, and one celebrated by those he mentored. He led many teams with his sons and even some without and was always a fair coach and let anyone who wanted to try something give it a shot. Whether it was working with wood, doing projects, discussing aviation, or listening to classic rock from the '80s, Jerry found joy in pursuing hobbies and sharing laughter with family and friends. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy and Texas Rangers fan and loved to discuss sports. He loved grilling, playing games, cracking jokes, and making every gathering memorable.

Jerry’s proudest accomplishments were those closest to his heart—being the best husband and father he could be, serving as a beloved friend to many, and building strong, lifelong connections within his community and family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Justin Charles Sarmiento; sister, Silvia Montanez; mother and father-in-law, Charles "Chuck" and Elizabeth " Betty" Sarsfield; brother-in-law's, Craig L. Sarsfield and John Mestas; numerous cousins, and extended family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Tammy M. Sarmiento; his son, Cody Lee Sarmiento (Christina); his mother, Maria Lidia Montanez; his siblings, Jaime Sarmiento (Mary), Carols Montanez (Eileen), Jose Montanez (Cynthia), Rosemary Mestas and Angelica Montanez; sister - in -laws, Vicki Fanion, Penny Patterson (David); numerous nieces, nephews. Each cherishes his memory, drawing comfort from the love and laughter he brought into their lives.

Gerardo Guillermo "Jerry" Sarmiento leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and community spirit. His steadfast presence will be missed by those who knew and loved him, and his memory will be cherished always
