Jerry William “Billy Bardo” Bendfeldt
March 21, 1953 – September 21, 2025
Jerry William Bendfeldt, lovingly known by many as “Billy Bardo,” passed away on September 21, 2025, at the age of 72. A proud New Yorker at heart, Jerry was born and raised in Brentwood, New York, but made his home in Burleson, Texas, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience.
For more than 40 years, Jerry made his living as an over-the-road truck driver. The highway was more than just a job for him—it was his passion. He loved the freedom of the open road, the countless cities and states he came to know, and the camaraderie of fellow drivers. Whether behind the wheel of his truck, chatting in drivers’ forums, or reminiscing about his travels, Jerry always carried a spark of adventure.
Though his heart never left New York, Jerry had another great love: the Dallas Cowboys. He cheered them on faithfully, season after season, proving that true fans come from anywhere. He also had a soft spot for history, music, politics, and never turned down a good game of Yahtzee. But of all the things he enjoyed, nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his family. His grandkids were his pride and joy.
Jerry faced many challenges in recent years, but he met them all with courage, strength, and an unwavering spirit. His resilience inspired everyone who knew him, and his sense of humor and warmth carried his loved ones through even the hardest times.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; his children, Travis (Cynthia) Bendfeldt and Samantha (Chris) Martinez; his grandchildren, Jhanzeil Pena, Erick Bendfeldt, Ayvri Gonzales, and Ella Martinez; his brothers Henry (Joan) Bendfeldt and Ronald (Peggy) Bendfeldt; and his cherished niece, Christine Faeke. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, August and Mildred Bendfeldt; his brothers Augie Bendfeldt, Eddie Bendfeldt, and Jimmy Bendfeldt; and his sisters Helen Kuetmann and Ruth Beaulieu.
Jerry’s presence was larger than life, and his absence will be felt by more people than he ever realized. He leaves behind a family and friends who loved him deeply and a legacy of perseverance, laughter, and love.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Skyvue Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 7229 Rendon Bloodworth Rd, Mansfield, Texas 76063 on October 3, 2025, from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. There will also be a live stream. His family asks that in honor of Jerry, you take a moment to enjoy the simple things—a good song, a laugh with loved ones, a Cowboy’s game, a game of Yahtzee or a drive with the windows down—because that’s the way he lived.
