Gregory Earl Reed, Jr.

May 24, 1979 — October 13, 2024

Gregory “Lil Greg” Earl Reed Jr., 45, peacefully gained his wings on October 13, 2024.

Born on May 24, 1979, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Gregory Earl Reed Sr. and Maryellen Varner Reed, Greg grew up surrounded by family and community. He attended Carroll Peak Elementary, Morningside Middle School, and graduated from O.D. Wyatt High School in 1997. After high school, Greg worked alongside his father at the family’s business, Hit City Records, primarily at the Everman location, where he discovered his lifelong passion for music and business.

Greg’s love for cooking began at Glady’s Soulfood in Fort Worth, where he first worked side by side with his father. This passion led him to Harris Southwest Hospital, where he continued to share his talent in the culinary department, bringing joy to others through his dishes.

Outside of work, Greg’s favorite moments were spent with family and friends, sharing laughter, cooking meals, listening to music, and working on his cars. Known for his infectious sense of humor, he could always bring a smile to those around him. His jokes, playful spirit, and generous heart made him unforgettable. To his family, Greg was more than a son, brother, uncle, dad, and grandad—he was a source of joy and light, a beautiful soul whose memory will be cherished forever.

In Heaven, Greg is reunited with his grandparents, Theodore and Gladys Reed Sr., Ezra Varner Sr., and Elizabeth Gordon; his father, Gregory Earl Reed Sr.; and his nephew, Harold Henderson II.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kivantè Thompson, Darrneshia Brown, Keshauna Reed, Gregory Reed III, and Gevonta Earl Reed; his eight grandchildren; his mother, Maryellen McCauley (Ulysses Bonner); his stepmother, Karen Reed; his sisters, Demetra Lewis (husband Antonio), Rachael Reed (husband James), Alexus Reed; his god-brother, James Christopher; his god-sister, Laquita Booker; his nieces Symphony Lewis, Trinity Lewis, Chellsea Hughes, and Caisea Hughes; his nephews Antonio Lewis Jr. and Demetri Lewis; and many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and family.
