Evelyn Jean Hemphill

March 16, 1951 — February 14, 2024

On March 16, 1951, Edward Gene and Leona Elizabeth Moody welcomed their very first child, a beautiful healthy baby girl whom they named Evelyn Jean Moody. Their home was located in Mansfield, Texas.

Evelyn was the oldest of five children, and she took great pride in helping rear her siblings while their parents were hard at work.

Evelyn under the pastoral care of Reverend Billingslea participated in Bethlehem Baptist Church activities by being a Sunday School Secretary and an usher. During her teenage years she also partook in local competitions by way of the Mansfield High School beauty pageantry, a very proud moment and a dear memory she often shared with others.

She met and married her husband Joe Willy Hemphill Jr. in September 1972 and to this union two boys were born, Jeffrey Wayne Hemphill and David Paul Hemphill. Shortly after marriage, she completed school and became a dental lab technician which afforded her the ability to operate her own business until 1993. She worked for Mansfield ISD in the school cafeteria from 2000 until her retirement.

God chose a special day, the day of love, to show his ultimate love by calling Evelyn home on February 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Willy Hemphill Jr., her parents Edward Gene and Leona Moody, and her sister Dorothy Faye McKinney.

Those left to cherish memories of Evelyn are her sons Jeffrey Wayne Hemphill (Angie) of Cibolo, Texas, David Paul Hemphill of Mansfield, Texas; sisters Jeanette Moore of Mansfield, Texas and Debbie Williams of Mansfield, Texas; and brother Edward Gene Moody Jr of Mansfield, Texas; grandchildren Jada Hoetzel of Mansfield, Texas, Sophia Hemphill of Mansfield, Texas, and Titan Jo'el Hemphill of Cibolo, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
