Elizabeth Louise Koss

Elizabeth Louise Koss, a beloved teacher and dedicated member of the community, passed away on August 3, 2023, at the age of 77 in Fort Worth, TX. Born on January 10, 1946, in Rockville, NY, Elizabeth touched countless lives as a compassionate educator.

Elizabeth began her career as a teacher for the State of Texas, leaving an indelible impact on students at various schools including Fort Worth State School, Mansfield ISD, and Arlington ISD. Her commitment to fostering learning and growth was truly remarkable. Elizabeth's caring nature and unwavering dedication to teaching others made her a cherished mentor to generations of students.

Elizabeth believed in the power of education and pursued her own academic journey with passion. She attended Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, and later graduated from TCU with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree. Her quest for knowledge was evident throughout her career as she continuously sought ways to improve herself both personally and professionally.

Outside the classroom, she was motivated by her love for teaching and tutoring and found joy in helping others succeed. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping and often exclaimed with enthusiasm: "Shop till we drop." 

During her lifetime, Elizabeth achieved several noteworthy accomplishments that reflected her exceptional character. She was an active member of Kappa Delta Pi: Kappa Upsilon Chapter and Fort Worth Alumni Chapter. She also held memberships in the TCU Alumni Association, International Education Honors Society, Eastern Star fraternity, and at one time served as the president of Crowley Youth Association. These achievements showcased Elizabeth's commitment to excellence in both her professional and personal life.

Family was incredibly important to Elizabeth. She deeply loved and cared for each member of her family circle. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Koss Ware and her life partner David Wayne Bolton, son Brett Koss and his wife Danielle, sister Kathy Odell and her husband Larry, grandson Derek Griffing and his wife Kelsey, granddaughter Brooke Hemby and her husband Josh, grandson Cody Ware, granddaughter Amber Vietzke and her husband Travis, granddaughter Brooklyn Kitchen and her husband Beau, great-grandson Baiden Coultrip, great-grandson Greyson Hemby, great-granddaughter Madalynn Hemby, nieces, Joyce, Beth, and Kerri, and nephew Paul.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her father Julius Paul Elwert and mother Margaret Anna Rogoski Elwert, sister Marlene Hogan.

Services to celebrate Elizabeth's life will be held at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield on August 19, 2023. A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Her service will be officiated by Pastor Sharon Reid, the minister of First United Methodist Church of Mansfied, Elizabeth's home church.
