Donna Jean Harris

Donna Harris, 71 of Alvarado passed away Thursday May 25, 2023 in Alvarado with her daughter by her side. 

Donna was born to Robert Harris and Betty Jo Hunter on January 27, 1952. She was born prematurely and was nursed back to health by her grandmother. In 1969 she welcomed her only daughter into the world. She worked at Billy Bobs before becoming a jailer at the Tarrant County Sheriff’s office. She worked hard during the day, and went to school at night to earn her peace officers license to become a deputy for Tarrant County while raising her granddaughter. She worked in many different departments, but finished her career in Labor Detail where she retired. She loved to garden, and her yard was chosen for yard of the month several times because of all of the blood sweat and tears she put into her landscape. She enjoyed genealogy, and spent hours tracing her lineage back because she was sure she was a part of the royal family. She loved to write and had two books published. Her greatest pride in life was her children. She loved her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything in the world, and she made sure to tell them every chance she got.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jo hunter, her grandparents, her brother Dennis Ray Sims, aunts and uncles. 

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Starks and husband Brian. sister, Vicki Sims. Granddaughter Brandy Rives and husband Aaron. Grandson Aaron Whitehead and wife Cassie. Her great grandchildren, Hailee, Gage and Logan Taylor and Scarlett Whitehead.  Her beloved cousin Judy Ruffin and husband Al, and her best friend Linda Mitchell. She is also survived by cousins and many friends that she made over the years.
