Delbert Wayne Johnson was born in Greene County, Arkansas on September 18, 1937. He passed into the arms of Jesus on July 17, 2026, at 88 years, 10 months of age. Delbert was #8 of 11 children born to Clyde William and Myrtle Gertrude Noel Johnson. He graduated from Oak Grove High School, Paragould, Arkansas and was voted Most Friendly and Most Handsome by the class of 1957. That summer, Delbert caught a bus and moved to Fort Worth Texas.
In 1958, he met Betty Louise Roberts, who had recently moved to Fort Worth from Tennessee. On January 10, 1959, after knowing each other for three months, a country boy from Arkansas and a beautiful girl from Tennessee drove to the courthouse in Ardmore, Oklahoma and got married "just because they could.” They built a beautiful life together and were married for 59 years and 10 months. Betty preceded him in death on November 10, 2018.
Delbert and Betty had two children: Donald Wayne in 1959 and Natalie Mae in 1963. They chose to live in the communities of Fort Worth, Alvarado, and Burleson, TX. Besides various earlier occupations, Delbert worked for American Bakeries, Taystee Bread from 1958–1973 and Miller Brewery from 1973–2002.
Delbert is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Roberts Johnson (1938-2018); his parents, Clyde William (1896-1971) and Myrtle Gertrude Noel Johnson (1901-1995); his siblings, Helen Penny (1919-1943), Floyd D (1920), Wilma Francis Petropolus (1921-2016), Jefferson Wells (1924-2008), Nima Jean Bowden (1927-2009), Dorthea Almeda Gillian (1932-1990), Wade Delano (1934-1995) Fayetta Carolyn Humphries (1940-2022); his great-granddaughter, Makenzi Faye Johnson (2008-2017), and angel babies; and his nephew who was more like a brother: Jimmie Allen Rowland (1942-2021).
Delbert is survived by his children; son, Donald Wayne and wife Deborah of Abilene, Texas, daughter, Natalie Mae and husband Van Bush of Burleson, Texas; six (6) grandchildren and their spouses; grandson, Donald Jr (Donnie) Johnson and wife, Amber, of Sterlington, Louisiana, grandson, Joshua Johnson and wife, Katrina, of Galveston, Texas, granddaughter Brandi Dennis and husband, Michael, of Midlothian, Texas, granddaughter Stormy Garfias and husband, Brandon, of Alvarado, Texas, grandson, Nathan Ellison and wife, Kelsey, of College Station, Texas, and grandson Timothy Bush, of Fort Worth, Texas; sixteen (16) great-grandchildren: Savannah, Simon, Blaine, Madison, Julian, Alexis, Alyssa, Daniel, Austin, Emma, Nora, Harrison, Mikaela, Kyle, and Reid; two (2) great-great-grandchildren; Brantley and Statler. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Betty Ann Nichols and husband, Tyrone and Wanda Bonney and husband, Marvin, and siblings-in-law Joann Roberts, Samuel and Shirley Roberts, Thomas and Jackie Roberts, Daniel and Nancy Roberts, Joy and Virgil Gibson, LaDonna and Ronnie Hyde, Scott Harvey, Linda Guisinger and numerous nieces and nephews.
