David Terry Hayes, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on March 15, 1945, in Three Creek, Arkansas, Terry lived a life filled with love, dedication, and countless fond memories. He cherished his family above all and leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered and celebrated by many.
Terry was a proud deacon at Joshua Baptist Church, deeply involved in church activities, where he shared his faith and commitment to his community. He was known as a hometown hero, recognized as a Modern Woodman of America, and was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Professionally, Terry enjoyed a successful career, with notable roles at Matthews International, EZ PKG and Graphics, and the Texas Rangers Baseball organization, reflecting his passion for sports and teamwork.
An avid sports enthusiast, Terry loved golf and baseball and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams. His joyful and competitive spirit etched unforgettable memories in the hearts of those fortunate enough to call him a friend. Terry's unparalleled kindness and warmth extended far beyond his immediate family; he cultivated friendships that enriched his life and the lives of others.
Terry is survived by his devoted spouse, Vickie Hayes, to whom he married on March 17, 1983, in Durant, Oklahoma. The couple built a strong and loving partnership that was a model of devotion. He leaves behind his treasured children, Sherri Jones and David Hayes with his spouse Kimberly Hayes, as well as Joshua Hayes and his spouse Amanda Hayes—each of whom carries forward his legacy of love and strength. Terry was also a proud grandfather to his grandchildren: Ashley, Jakob, Carly, and Shiloh, with whom he shared countless moments of joy and laughter. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his sister, Melrose Lucas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who were enriched by his presence.
He has been reunited in rest with his parents, David and Clytee Hayes; his sister, Juanita; and his brother, Doyle. Their memories will forever remain a cherished part of his story, guiding his loved ones as they navigate their loss.
A visitation to celebrate Terry's life will be held on September 4, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield, TX. The funeral service will take place the following day, September 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Joshua Baptist Church in Joshua, TX, followed by a burial at Skyvue Memorial Gardens at 2:45 PM.
David Terry Hayes will be dearly missed by all who knew him; his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he so passionately served.
