Darlene Thornhill

Mar 16, 1943 — Jun 30, 2026

Darlene Thornhill, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on March 16, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, Darlene’s journey through life was marked by her warmth, resilience, and unyielding love for her family and community.

Darlene’s legacy is one of unwavering devotion and tireless dedication to those she cherished. As a mother, she was a steadfast presence, nurturing her children Cindy Whitehead, Jackie Wells, Heather Miner, and Marcus Kingery with boundless affection and a guiding hand. Her children remember her gentle counsel, the laughter that filled their homes, and her beautiful craftsmanship as a seamstress—each hand-stitched dress a testament to her care and creativity.

She kept the memory of her late husband, Weldon Thornhill, whose partnership brought her much joy. Together, their hearts formed a home woven with togetherness and compassion.

Darlene’s passions extended into her professional life. She worked with vigor and pride as a bartender before embracing a career as a licensed beautician and hairdresser—a calling that allowed her to touch the lives of many not just with her artistry, but with her heartfelt conversations and empathetic ear.

The joy of her family blossomed generation after generation. Darlene’s impact is lovingly carried forward by her grandchildren, David Grimm, Tony Whitehead, Niel Whitehead, Austin Miner, Aidan Miner, Rowdy Miner, Hailey Kingery, Noah Kingery, and Bergen Kingery, each of whom carries with them the spark of her devotion. Her great-grandchildren, Lilly Grimm and Archer Grimm, were cherished lights in her later years, bringing her immense happiness and filling her days with laughter.

Darlene also held her extended family close in her heart—her son in laws, Todd Whitehead and Kenneth Miner, sisters Pat Mullins and her husband Ed, and Barbara Kelly, nieces Adrian Johnson, Connie Kelly, Rebecca Arcinigaga, and Holly, nephews Eric Mullins, Clayton, Kelly, and Tom Samples III. Her loss is keenly felt by all who loved her, as well as by friends and acquaintances who experienced her open-heartedness and enduring spirit.

Throughout her life, Darlene gave freely of her talents and time. She was an avid bowler in her youth, sharing her skills as a bowling instructor, and later found camaraderie and joy as a member of dart leagues, where she played for many years. As a Girl Scout troop leader, she fostered confidence and adventure in her children and their friends, creating cherished memories that endure. Darlene embraced every opportunity to create, teach, and gather those she loved, whether through sewing, games, or guiding young hearts.

Darlene’s sense of community extended beyond her home. She dedicated herself passionately to service as Past President of the VFW Post 8911 Auxiliary, exemplifying her commitment to support veterans and their families, strengthening her circle of friends and community through acts of kindness and leadership.

She is reunited in peace with those who have gone before her: her beloved husband Weldon Thornhill, son Richard Kingery, grandchildren Elesa Parker and Mark Ivicic Jr., parents Tom Samples Sr. and Leona Samples, brother Tom Samples Jr., and nephew Steven Paul Samples.

Those who knew and loved Darlene will gather to remember her deep well of love, her infectious smile, and the countless ways she touched their lives. Friends and family are invited to a viewing on July 11, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Skyvue Funeral Home, 7220 Rendon Bloodworth Rd, Mansfield, TX 76063.

Though her earthly journey has ended, Darlene’s enduring grace and love will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and the extraordinary strength of a loving family. She will be deeply missed and eternally remembered.
