Life’s Triumphs
On July 11, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas, Connie Faye Mays peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest.
Connie Faye Mays was born on June 12, 1938, in Stamford, Texas, to the union of Dempsey Baker and Mozelle (Johnson) Baker. She received her formal education from Booker T. Washington School in Stamford, Texas. On October 15, 1956, she united in holy matrimony with her one and only love, Earnest Paul Mays Jr. Their marriage, which spanned 59 beautiful years, stood as a testament to unwavering love, deep faith, and lifelong devotion. Connie dedicated her career to serving others in the healthcare field. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Stamford Memorial Hospital, Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder, Texas, and at several care facilities including Teakwood Nursing Home, and Skyview Living Center in
Stamford.
She was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, proud grandmother, loyal sister, and a trustworthy friend. Connie had a heart that knew no bounds—there was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children, grandchildren, or anyone in need. She was a sweet, gentle soul, cherished by everyone
who knew her.
Some of her favorite pastimes included crocheting, volunteering, and most of all, spending time with her beloved family and grandchildren. Connie had a strong faith in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. She joined Solomon Temple Baptist Church at a young age, later becoming a member of Bethel Church of God in Christ in the early 2000s. After relocating to Mansfield, Texas, in 2007 with her husband Earnest, she became a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Mansfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dempsey Baker and Mozelle Davis; stepfather, Namon Davis; one son, Rory Dewayne Mays; six brothers, William Dorsey Davis, Ronnie Baker, Charles Ray Baker, Charles McClain, James Willie Standifer and Kary Baker; and four sisters, Betty Jo Davis, Dorothy J. Rogers, Lina Mae Dillard, and Barbara Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Stephen Paul Mays (Misty) of Abilene, Texas; one daughter, Jacki Elaine Earl (Gary Don) of Mansfield, Texas; one brother, Billy Baker of Tucson, Arizona; ten grandchildren, Nathan Mays, Misty Easterling, Jodi Nicholson, Jordan Durham, Courtney Mays, Donovan Earl, Heather Mays, Ashlie Mays, Austin Mays, Chayce Earl, Leeland Liggins, and Lilli Liggins; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Connie was always present, always loving, always encouraging. Her radiant smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed. Though she is no longer with us in body, her strength, faith, and legacy will live on in each of us.
