Mrs. Laura Rosa Williams Caruthers, beloved Mother, Wife, Former First Lady, Sister, Grandmother and Friend, was born October 1, 1922 in Montalba, Texas, a small community near Palestine in East Texas. She was the youngest of seven children born to parents, Isaac Williams and Clara Robertson Williams
.
She attended Montalba community schools and after graduating, moved to Ft. Worth where she met and married her life partner, James Randolph Caruthers Sr. They Married January 11, 1948 and their marriage was blessed with four children; James,Jr., Ronnie, Jerron, and Marilyn.
Mrs. Caruthers marriage was blessed once again when her husband, James answered the call to the ministry in 1956 and becoming a United Methodist pastor shortly after. She gladly joined joined him and served as his helpmate in ministry , proudly serving as First Lady for many United Methodist Congregations over the years.
After her husband's retirement as an active pastor, Reverend and Mrs. Caruthers joined Morningside United Methodist Church. At Morningside United Methodist, Mrs. Caruthers was a member of the United Methodist Women and the New Foundatin Circle. She was also a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Stars.
Mrs. Caruthers loved the Lord, her family and all people. Her love for her family was unconditionally and she was their biggest supporter and cheerleader. She loved being a wife and a mother. She also loved gardening; turning her yard over the years into a garden oasis.
She will long be remembered for her beautiful hats and her beautiful smile. Her presence will be missed, but her legacy of giving to everyone will live on forever.
Mrs. Caruthers made her peaceful transition from labor to reward on July 3, 2014 after a lengthy illness at the home of her daughter in Duncanville, Texas where she lived and was being cared for.
Mrs. Caruthers was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Reverend James Randolph Caruthers Sr. (2011), her eldest son, James Randolph Caruthers Jr.(1999) both of her parents and six of her seven siblings.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Caruthers Wise (Gerald) of Duncanville, Texas; two sons, Ronnie D. Caruthers of Cedar Hill, Texas and Jerron W. Caruthers of Fort Worth, Texas ; one sister, Centenarian Mrs. Marie Chancellor of Dallas, Texas and four grandchildren, Laura K. Wise of New York, New York, Chloe C. Walker of Fort Worth , Texas, Jerron W. Caruthers Jr. of Texas City, Texas and Gerald Kareem Wise of Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Caruthers is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
