Carl "Hoopy" Keith West

Carl "Hoopy" Keith West, 89, of Burleson, Texas, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, passed away on June 7, 2023.

He was born on November 5, 1933, in Wyoming, Iowa, the son of Fay Edward West and Myrtle Augusta Boots Edwards.

Carl proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War as a Gunnery Drill Sergeant. After serving in the military, he worked for the J.I. Case Tractor Company for 30 years in Burlington, Iowa.

In his free time, Carl enjoyed riding motorcycles and building guns. He often went to the range to shoot and built numerous models from scratch. He also loved playing darts and cards and was an avid reader.

Carl's proudest accomplishments were his two grandsons. He cherished being a grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father Fay Edward West, mother Myrtle Augusta Boots, brother Charles "Bud" West, sisters Shirley Buckles and Nancy West, brother Raleigh West and ex-wife Diana West.

Carl is survived by his daughter Wendy West Billings and son-in-law David Billings of Burleson, Texas; son Clinton Jay West and daughter-in-law Karen West of Burlington, Iowa; sister Loretta Eisenmann of Peoria, Illinois; brothers Thomas West of Moline, Illinois, and Robert West and wife, Barbra West of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandsons Zachary Billings and wife, Jenna Billings, of Ada, Oklahoma, Beau Billings of Burleson, Texas; great-grandson Barnard Billings, of Ada, Oklahoma; niece Michelle Coburn of Peoria, Illinois, and Patty Kummer of Peoria, Illinois; nephew John Eisenmann of Peoria, Illinois; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and loving friends.
