BJ’S MOTTO: HARD WORK, CLEAN LIVING

Billy Joe “B.J” Brightman, 42, of Dallas, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Dallas and raised in the Pleasant Grove community, B.J had a passion for basketball, music, and life. He was a proud graduate of Skyline High School, Class of 2001, and continued his education at Remington College, where he earned his business degree in 2005—an accomplishment he was deeply proud of.

B.J built a long and dedicated career as a store manager, faithfully serving his company for 20 years. His work ethic, loyalty, and warm personality made him a pillar in his workplace. He was deeply loved not only by his customers—many of whom returned because of him—but also by his coworkers and employees, who admired his leadership, kindness, and unwavering support.

Above all else, B.J was a devoted family man. He shared his eldest daughter, Tinaya Richardson, with Laquita Spencer, and his youngest daughter, Mariah Brightman, with his wife, Brenda Brightman. His girls were truly “daddy’s girls,” and he cherished every moment with them. A mama’s boy through and through, B.J held a deep and special bond with his mother, Cynthia A. Richardson-Willis, whose love and guidance shaped him throughout his life.

He is survived by his brothers Kevin Brightman, Ken Bell, Jimmy Bell, Jimmy Willis Jr., and John Willis; his sisters Kendra Jones and Lakenya Taylor; and his stepfather, Jimmy Willis, who played a significant, guiding, and loving role in raising him. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and the spouses of his siblings. B.J also held a deep love and appreciation for his Rivas in-law family, who embraced him wholeheartedly.

His family roots were proudly woven through generations, connecting the Richardson, Moore, Brightman, Willis, and Rivas families—ties he honored and cherished.

B.J is preceded in death by his father, Ronald Wayne Moore, who shared with him a lifelong love of music.

An unforgettable presence, B.J loved sneakers—especially Jordans—and cheering for his hometown teams: the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks. A talented dancer, he met his wife Brenda on the dance floor on October 24, 2008, beginning 17 years of love and partnership. His humor, charm, and bright spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
