Billie June McFarlin

November 4, 1931 — June 2, 2025

Billie June McFarlin has peacefully gone to be with the Lord on June 2, 2025 at the age of 93.

Billie was born on November 4, 1931, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Ruth Savage and McDaniel Finch. She lived with her parents and also stayed with her aunts and cousins as a teenager. Eventually, Billie and her brother, Bobby, were placed in the Lena Pope Home. She dearly loved Mom Pope. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School, where she played as the pitcher on the fast pitch softball team.

She worked at a malt shop on the corner of Magnolia and Hemphill, and as a carhop on roller-skates at Carlson’s on University Drive. She knew many of the Fort Worth Cats team members, as they would all come there to eat. Billie was an excellent skater spending many a night at the roller rink. Back in the day, all the young people from the church, and other churches in the area, met on the third Monday every month and headed down to the rink. Billie would get her skates on and be bopping to the music any which way she could. Skating night was her favorite thing to look forward to.

Working for Coca-Cola, Billie met her future husband, Johnny. From the moment they met, she had her eyes on him, even telling her best friend, Dorothy, that she was going to marry him. Halloween Day of 1953, Billie and Johnny were married. Being married for over 71 beautiful years, she was a faithful wife until their last days. She was a wonderful homemaker, and became a very active PTA/PTO and room mom. Later in life, Billie and Johnny loved going to watch their grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their sports. Billie loved sports her whole life. She was a diehard Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fans. So much so, that she could name you all the players, and she cheered them on whether they were winning or losing. She never gave up on them. It is so cool that she got to see her Rangers win the World Series in 2023, and her Cowboys win the Super Bowl a few times, several years ago.

Billie loved her family very much, and they all loved her too.

Billie is preceded in death by her late husband of over 71 years, John McFarlin; her parents, Ruth and Bill Savage, McDaniel Finch; her brother, Bobby Finch; her infant son, Howard Franklin McFarlin; her half-brother, Jimmy Hines.

Billie is survived by her children, Cheryl and Eldon Self, Dennis and Debbie McFarlin, Shawn and Terry Gresham; her grandchildren, Michael and Hannah Self, Stephen and Whitney Self, John Dennis and Jessica McFarlin, Tess McFarlin and Drew Bauman, William and Jessica McFarlin, Cortney and Dustin Edwards, Jeff and Stephani Gresham, Garrett Gresham and Cody Smart; her great-grandchildren, Hannah Kness and Lane Webb, Cameran Bilderback, Michael Self, Hayes Self, Rhett Self, Teagan Self, Kinsler Self, Brynleigh McFarlin, Bryson McFarlin, Connor Gresham, Lyla McFarlin, Journey Edwards, and Ryot Edwards; as well as many loving family members, nieces, and nephews.
