Anna Marie Shotwell, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on October 22, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, Anna’s journey was one marked by devotion to family and service, both in her professional life and within her home.
Anna retired as a dedicated medical transcriptionist, a testament to her diligence, attention to detail, and commitment to helping others through her work. Her career touched many lives, ensuring that the voices of patients and medical professionals were carefully preserved and accurately conveyed. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Anna was affectionately known as a “mother to all.” This reflection of her personality stands as a lasting legacy; whether family, friend, or newcomer, everyone was welcomed by her warmth, kindness, and nurturing spirit. Her open heart and generous presence wove together those around her, forming bonds that endured across generations and distances.
Anna’s life was deeply rooted in love for her family. She is survived by her loving son, John Raymond Shotwell and wife, Lynette. Anna also leaves behind her sisters, Judy Margaret Clary and husband Richard, and Debbie Diane Gilbert; her brother, Robert Wayne Gilbert, who all cherished her ever-supportive nature.
Her warmth extended to her grandchildren, Emmaly Grace Shotwell, Ayva Michelle Shotwell, and Nicholas John Shotwell, each of whom will hold close the memories of her caring guidance and boundless affection.
Anna is also remembered fondly by those family members who have preceded her in passing: her husband, Johnny W. Shotwell; her beloved son, David Allen Shotwell; her parents, Anita and John Gilbert; her brother, Johnny R. Gilbert. Their memories and the experiences they shared with Anna continue to be honored by those whose lives she touched.
The visitation to honor Anna’s life will be held on August 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Skyvue Funeral Home, located at 7220 Rendon Bloodworth Rd, Mansfield, TX 76063. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. the same day at Skyvue Funeral Home. The following day, August 7, 2026, Anna will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, with a burial service commencing at 11:00 a.m. The cemetery is located at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
Anna Marie Shotwell’s passing leaves a deep void for all who knew and loved her. The grace and devotion with which she lived her life will remain a beacon and comfort to her family and friends. Her nurturing legacy will endure, and her memory will be cherished deeply by all whose lives she graced.
