In Loving Memory of Agnes H. “Mama” Wilson

Agnes H. “Mama” Wilson, a vibrant and spirited Liberian American, passed away on January 25, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Born on September 11, 1953, in Cape Palmas, Liberia, she touched the lives of many with her infectious joy and commitment to family.

In 1976, Agnes embarked on a new adventure, moving to the United States, where she embraced her new home in Washington D.C. Years later, Agnes relocated to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to be closer to her brother. There, she became an active member of the National Maryland County Association of Liberia USA-Texas Chapter and the Liberian Community Association - DFW Chapter, where her passion for preserving her cultural heritage shone brightly. She was a pillar of strength within the community, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement.

Agnes’ pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement was evident in her studies at a community college in California, where she earned an interior design certificate. Her creativity and talent were showcased in her work, reflecting her dedication to personal growth. But Agnes was more than her accomplishments; she radiated with the warmth of joy and the spirit of celebration. Agnes had an unparalleled ability to infuse any gathering with laughter. Her friends and family could always count on her to be the life of the party, and her energy was contagious.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Himie Wilson and Agnes Waynah Wilson, and three brothers, Emmanuel Wilson, Samuel Wilson, and Robert Wilson.

Agnes is survived by her only son, James Himie Allison; several stepdaughters; granddaughter, Wede (Borris) Allison Austin; 5 great-grandchildren, Lawrence, Samuel, Abraham, Borris Jr., and Dorcas; beloved sister, Annie Blay; beloved brother, Abe (Effie) Wilson; and many nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
