Obituary

Gary Joe Weaver was called home by the Lord suddenly and swiftly in the very early morning hours of August 4, 2020. He was 69 years old, but would gladly tell you that he never looked a day over 49! Gary had an undeniable God-given spark that captured the hearts of all who knew him throughout his life. He was a faithful servant to the Lord with a kind, loving soul. Gary Joe loved being a Father and a Marine most in life. He is survived by his seven children: Brent Weaver, Kelli Weaver Cook, Bryan Weaver, Westy Weaver Parslow, Katherine Weaver, Shannon Weaver, and Holly Weaver. He was the proud grandfather of eight: Trysten, Jimmy, Ethaniel, Ethan, Aidan, Austin, Beya, and Suzie Q. He was the beloved brother of Debbie Carnes, who is his last remaining sibling. Gary Joe is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Sandy Scheu, who he referred to as the love of his life. Not far behind the love of his family and his lady, was his sweet, faithful companion, Lucy, his Newfoundland dog that brought him joy in the last few years of his life. Gary Joe was preceded in death by his father Billy Joe Weaver in 1970, and his mother Betty Doris Latimer in 2013. His beloved brother Floyd Weaver preceded him in death in 2015, along with his dear sister Teressa Henderson in 2018.

Without question, Gary Joe Weaver loved many things in life and many people. He loved to dance, loved to laugh, was never afraid of being goofy, or having a good time, and quick to make a joke or poke fun at life. His sense of humor brought a positive light to many of us. He loved his Dallas Cowboys, Southern food, and never passed up a chance to indulge in some coconut cream pie. Gary also served his country well in the Marine Corps for almost 20 years and was a Purple Heart recipient. During the Vietnam War, he took a bullet in the left shoulder that nearly ended his life. For Weaver, the Marine Corps was his savior, his demise, his love, his loss, his strength, his weakness, and most of all, his home. The Marine Corps forged him into the man that we all knew and loved. He got to see the world through his military career. In his retirement, Gary got to see the country he served by traveling all over the U.S. to explore the natural beauty of State parks, campgrounds, forests, beaches, mountains, deserts, and countrysides. He also enjoyed playing golf, wine tasting, and catching a country-western show or rodeo on occasion too!

Gary Joe Weaver often said that he had lived many lives. We will be honoring all of those lives that he lived on Saturday, August 15th, 4-7 p.m. for his viewing and wake at the Skyvue Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas. All are welcome to join us in celebrating and honoring him. Gary Joe Weaver will then be laid to rest with a full military honors service and burial at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Monday, August 17th at 1:30 p.m. He will be greatly missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
